Beginning in 2010, Tee Ball
Baseball will no longer be franchising seven year olds.
This decision was made by the board of Tee
Ball Baseball, Inc. on February 15th.
This decision was the result of much concern
that the Tee Ball World Series had become a home run derby rather than a
display of defensive and offensive capabilities. During the last three
years,
a combined total of
321
home
runs were hit during Tee Ball World Series.
Most parks, like ours,
cannot extend their fences to accommodate the
technological advancement in bats and balls as well as advanced player
abilities due to the earlier development of players beginning at age four.
With these factors in play, Tee Ball Baseball
believes that the time has come to focus on Four, Five and Six Year olds
with Tee Ball and allow sevens to advance into coach pitch, machine pitch
or coach pitch softball (girls).
The five and six year olds will
now play in the Tee Ball World Series and four and five year olds will
play in a tournament that will be rotated among the franchise Tee Ball
parks as we have done in the past.
We have had many requests in the past few
years to allow fours to participate in tournament play and we are happy to
announce that in 2010 they will be able to do so.
We have received several
requests from parks currently outside the framework of Tee Ball Baseball
to be franchised in 2010 due to this change. We believe that we will
increase the number of teams participating and therefore expand interest
in the tournaments now franchised by Tee Ball Baseball.
We also believe that the game will return to
its original intent of being a display of defensive and offensive skills
rather than simply a display of home run hitters. We welcome your comments
by way of email.
Yours for our youth,
Tod Brainard
